Above the confluence of these rivers perches a castle founded in the second half of the 12th century by the Bavors of Strakonice, a mighty Bohemian family. Hotel Bavor, too, takes its name from this distinguished house. The hotel is located in the centre of Strakonice and offers a beautiful view of the Gothic castle and the confluence of the Volyňka and the gold-bearing Otava river. Strakonice is an ideal location and makes a great place from which to embark on excursions to places such as the ponds of Vodňany and Blatenský, and to the nearby Šumava forest. Not far from the hotel, there is a sports complex with two uncovered swimming pools and one covered one. It also offers tobogganing, volleyball, tennis and basketball courts as well as minigolf.
