Introduction
Amber Hotel Vavřinec is located on the town square of Roudnice nad Labem, which is part of the tourist region of the České středohoří (Bohemian Middle Mountains). It just under 50km away from Prague and is situated just 2km away from the D8 motorway. The bus station is 50m from the hotel, while the train station is about 250m away. The building’s history goes back to the 14th century. In the 16th century, it was considered to be the most palatial house in Roudnice. The building has been reconstructed many times over the ages due to numerous fires. In the interwar period, consideration was being given to erect an emergency hospital for the military at the location where the house stood. However, these plans failed to materialise, and the Hornobeřkovský Brewery later proposed to buy the house, intending to open up a tavern. This would have meant a dangerous new competitor in Roudnice for the local Lobkowiczký Brewery, which was the reason why the Lobkowicz family finally decided to buy the house. In 1954, the house was given over to the Czechoslovak state.
